Hi,

Disclaimer : the content here expressed beneath is absolutely my own
opinion, kindly ignore if you find the content
inadequate/inappropriate.The following is my suggestion for a
beginner.

When ranking language of priority to code, it is absolutely a
situational choice and cannot be passed as judgments.

In a beginners perspective, it is better to start with
PLT(programming logics and techniques). basically this is a exercise
which tells how to anatomize a problem by slicing it into small parts
and solve them by using techniques. Learning this gives clear
understanding about the problem definition and enriches the analytical
thinking process.

Whether we like or not, we have to start with a language to depict our
idea into a program, i believe many people here given valuable
feedbacks, take one prescription and put your heart mind and soul in
getting your skills fine tune in such a way that you get your
confidence upbeat that you can express your idea digitally. I would
say ,initially you may ended in selecting a wrong choice, and if you
arrived a solution that you are partnering with a wrong tool,
relinquish it and search for the better bet for the problem. After all
civilization evolved by error and correction method.

Talking on a specific instance , The best thing about learning is
keeping the choice of tools open.In my limited knowledge i found some
branch of ruby seems interesting for me in leveraging in
microcontroller development (http://rad.rubyforge.org/). While on the
other hand i am eager to learn what is there in offering from the
python campus (http://pyastra.sourceforge.net/). I am eager in
learning tools, and believe delivering solution is the paramount
objective. I believe being a language lawyer is no good ;).

PS: for beginners, use ilugc meeting to present a solution with what
you have learnt, this exercise does not need the language skill like
that of Mr.Samuel johnson or technical skill like that of Mr.Torvalds.
In this way, people who are coming for the session will help and cheer
you, thus you will be motivated.
