Looks interesting. I would not have imagined that the system call overhead would be that much. An interesting thing to try would be to integrate this with capabilities to reduce the privilege of the kernel-mode process. However, I am not sure if kernel-mode processes can work with reduced capabilities. For example, how much can one reduce the capabilities of a kernel module? This would allow the process to have the benefits of reduced overhead without (too many) security complications.
