Don't know if it relevant but nonetheles, I'll share my experience with XUbuntu upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04. Even though I accepted the package manager's grub menu.lst, it was all messed up (I have Xubuntu desktop on one partition and Ubuntu 7.10 server on another partition).
