The IESG has approved the following document: - 'NTP Over PTP' (draft-ietf-ntp-over-ptp-07.txt) as Proposed Standard
This document is the product of the Network Time Protocols Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Erik Kline and Éric Vyncke. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-ntp-over-ptp/ Technical Summary This document specifies a transport for the client-server and symmetric modes of the Network Time Protocol (NTP) which encapsulates NTP messages in messages of the Precision Time Protocol (PTP). This transport enables hardware timestamping in network interface controllers which can timestamp only PTP messages and enables delay corrections in PTP transparent clocks. Working Group Summary No controversy. Coordination with IEEE 1588 PTP working group was required. No issues. Document Quality There is at least one implementation with several vendors tested; see Implementation section. Personnel The Document Shepherd for this document is Karen O'Donoghue.
