An upgrade to the kubernetes cluster hosting the datatracker, the IETF
website, and mailarchive left those services down for an hour today. Any
service relying on the datatracker for login was also affected.
We performed this upgrade now as the only way to prevent an automatic
upgrade during IETF 123 Madrid. After this meeting we will be migrating
to a cloud provider where we have better control over the timing of
automatic upgrades.
We expected only a few moments of downtime. We understand why this took
longer than anticipated, and expect to avoid downtime of this magnitude
with future upgrades.
