NY Maritime is the winner of the 201 Ted Ferrarone Team Race! The tie between Yale and NYM was broken incorrectly.
According to PR25cii: A tie involves a trophy place (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), but not a qualifying place, and the tied colleges met once - 1, 2, 3, tie stands; and they met more than once - 2, 1, 3, tie stands; Since Yale and NYM meet twice in previous rounds, method #2 under Breaking Ties is used. Congratulations to the Mariners. The final standings have been modified on the scoring grid which includes RP info. All other ties were correctly broken using PR25ciii. Ties were broken on Points scored. 2011 Ted Ferrarone TR Report Sat: Breeze was WSW to WNW from 5-20 but mainly 10-15 range. Swells from LIS made for some difficult chop on starboard tack and great surfing at times on port. All races were sailed inside Short Beach Cove. Two round robins were completed. There were no breakdowns and three protests were filed resulting in 1 DSQ and 2 disallowed. Many thanks to Meredith Killion class of '05 for hearing protest along with URI Coach Clinton Hayes who gets Super Coach of the day award! We will finish the third and final round robin on Sunday. 1. NY Maritime 8-2 2. Yale 8-2 3. Salve Regina 5-5 4. Boston Univ. 3-7 U. Rhode Island 3-7 6. Bowdoin 2-8 Sun: One scoring correction before we hit the water. Bowdoin enters the Day 3-7. The fleet hit the water to a great 8-15 knots northwesterly. Pretty quiet day through round robin 3 when all of a sudden the wind built to 20, then 25 with gusts close to 30. Many boats capsized at once sending the powerboats into rescue mode. Most boats capsized right next to Umbrella rocks. Most were righted with the help of powerboats then sailed in while one boat washed up on the rocks amazingly with little damage except for a broken spreader. After counting our fingers and toes racing was called for the day with an incomplete RR 3. However the round was used to break the tie for first in favor of Yale after the Bulldogs finished 1,2,5. RR3 also broke the tie between URI, BU and Bowdoin. URI beat BU and Bowdoin but Bowdoin and BU never meet in the 3rd round. That tie was broken on points from the previous rounds in favor of Bowdoin. Many thanks to Meredith Killion and Emily Hill and the Bulldog undergrads for running the races. And a big thanks to Ted Ferrarone who graciously sprang for pizzas on Saturday after racing for the entire regatta! Final scores: 1. Yale 8-2* 2. NY Maritime 8-2* 3. Salve Regina 5-5 4. U. Rhode Island# 3-7 5. Bowdoin# 3-7 6. Boston Univ.# 3-7 *Yale beat NY Maritime in third round race. Used as tie break # URI beat Bow and BU in 3rd round while Bowdoin beat BU on points from previous two meetings. Scoring grids are attached
