Southern New England Team Race Connecticut College/US Coast Guard Academy
April 2-3, 2011
Saturday: All competitors reported to CGA for the day with
Connecticut college running one course and Coast Guard the other. 36
FJ's were used and despite the windy forecast it was anything but.
Wind started out of the west and shifted North, South and eventually
dying for a good part of the day. Both courses did a great job of
keeping up with the shifty conditions and called racing at 4:45 with no
breeze. The plan is to complete the single round robin of 16 with the
potential of a final 4 in each group of 4, we will see. Thanks to the
few teams who brought an umpire to the event and a big thanks to all the
umpires for helping out.
Sunday: Great breeze with winds ranging from NW/W at 12-25 knots.
One full rotation of all 16 teams was able to be completed . Before
the time limit expired and before protests were heard a three team sail
off was sailed resulting in BC 2-0, RWU 1-1, and Harvard 0-2 that
ultimately was unnecessary as Harvard won a protest against BC to break
the 3 way tie. Thanks to all the Camel and Coast Guard sailors for
running a great event and once again to all the volunteers who were
umpires for the weekend. In all plenty of calls were made on the water
resulting in only a few protests off the water. Harvard wins the 2011
