2009 Hap Moore Trophy
Boston College
Saturday: After an extended delay in the morning, we were able to run 57 races
on collegiate N courses. Savin Hill offered SW breeze ranging from 4-12 knots
and high temperatures in the fifties. We sailed until sunset with the
sailors in the last race not making to the dock until after dark.
Sunday: Racing started promptly at 10am in a WSW breeze. Conditions were
ideal in the morning with breeze ranging from 8-12 knots, making for
exceptional team racing. Royal Military College was in absentia today
resulting in the 12 team round robin being completed with only 11 teams. After
a short delay a championship and consolation round of six and round of five
were completed, respectively, in a dying breeze. A final four was attempted;
however, it was unable to be completed because of lack of wind. Sailors were
kept out on Dorchester Bay until the edge of the time limit in order to try to
squeeze in the final flight. A total of 95 races were completed all using the
collegiate N.
Thank you to the BC Undergrads for helping run races and braving the elements
in the YARDSALE collecting finishes. Thank you to Alex Gestal for scoring,
Connecticut College for providing a starting box, UMass Boston, Harvard, Boston
University, and MIT for providing umpire boats, and Bern Noack for acting as
the ICSA Rep.
A special thanks goes to the umpires, Emily Flint, Jamie Gilman, Ted Green,
Peter Johns, Reed Johnson, Greg Kiely, Matt Knowles, and Megan Watson, who
contributed their time to umpire more than half of the races, hear protests,
and provide race committee assistance in trying conditions on Saturday morning
and Sunday afternoon.
