Kennedy Cup day 2 in Annapolis featured a fresh southerly breeze in excess of most forecasts by about double. 15 knots greeted the 9 competitors for the first race along with some substantial size waves. The wind and waves continued building and peaked in the low 20s by the later races with waves around 4'.
PRO Bruce Bingman and his race committee completed five races before heading for the barn. Cal Maritime fully recovered from their jet lag of yesterday winning four of the five races today, blemishing their scoreline with a 6th in the other after they returned from an OCS start. Navy struggled to find their groove in the first race finishing a distant 8th before coming back for a pair of seconds only to then get caught in the same OCS pileup as Cal and swallowing a 7th. They kept their regatta hopes alive finishing 3rd in the final race to end the day tied for 2nd 9 points back of Cal Maritime. Coast Guard had an up and down day as well and are tied with Navy. Two races are scheduled for tomorrow and the forecast promises it will be an interesting finale. Provisional Results (protests pending) 1. Cal Maritime 4,4,1,1,1,1,6,1 19 2.
