Thanks for the inquiry.

To see ballasting in the V15 Team Racing regatta Jan. 1-3, 2008 was a start.
Currently, the '07-'08 ICSA season has had lightish winds for venues I have
followed. Consequently, the "extreme" crews have become expert sandwich
makers.

Minimum crew weights are needed in order to allow all sailors to be
competitive. Right now, when breezes are light, lightweight sailors excel
and conversely, when breezes are up, heavier and taller crews do better.
Ballasting light crews to allow more competition among more collegiate
sailors should be a goal with your design efforts.

As for the boat design itself, keep the lesser funded teams in mind, stay
away from exotic, expensive materials and make a boat that is durable and
will stay competitive and keep more teams racing. Carbon is silly for those
on budgets, it doesn't belong in the ICSA. Collegiate football and other
sports bring in revenue, sailing doesn't. Competetive collegiate sailing is
"cool", the boats don't need to be. More sailors sailing should be your
objective, no?

Subject: [ICSA] New Collegiate Dinghy: Comments Wanted!

Dear College Sailing Enthusiast-

We have been appointed as a Committee to Design a New Collegiate Dinghy.
Our immediate goal is to come up with a set of characteristics that we
desire in such a craft. We are soliciting ideas and opinions from a wide
range of sailors, coaches and others. This committee will deliver
appropriate details with which designers might work with.

We are interested in your opinions on said characteristics as well as
your input/advice on the specific components of an actual design.

Please goto: http://www.collegesailing.org/blog.asp to review and post
comments. If you have any technical problems, please contact the
webmaster, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks.
