REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday: Extremely tough conditions on the Thames River. The breeze
constantly shifted back and forth from the North to the South ranging from 3-12
knots. Although the tide was in a fload in the morning it was always running
out which made starting in the Southerly difficult with many general recalls,
and starting in the Northerly pleasant for the Race Committee. All courses
sailed were a course 5 at approx 22 minutes. 4 races in each division were
completed. Thanks to out Judges Sue Riley, George Crocker and Mike Horn who
heard one protest resulting in a DSQ and one Redress was awarded. Thanks also
to PRO Doug Clark and all the Coast Guard Cadets for running great races in
trying conditions. Results are set up for a show down on Sunday.
Sunday: Competitors were greated with a strong Northeasterly first thing in
the morning. 6 races in each divison were sailed in a 10-18 NE breeze before
the wind shifted to the East. 3 more races in each division were sailed in a
very shifty East wind ranging from 6-16. All courses sailed were course 5 at
approx 22 minutes. Racing was very close for the final spot at Nationals with
Yale pulling it off in the end. Thanks again to our judges Sue Riley, George
Crocker and Mike Horn who had no action on Sunday. Also special thanks to
Doug Clark, Brian Swingly and the entire Coast Guard Academy Sailing team who
ran 26 races is the most difficult conditions on the Thames River.
Congratulations to Boston College, Harvard, Dartmouth and Yale who will be
representing NEISA at the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championships.
