Saturday:
The day began with a dying northerly. Competitors were treated to a local
history lesson about the sailing site and the British occupation of
southeastern Connecticut. The southerly came in around 1 and the first two A
div. races were sailed before the breeze switched back to the north during race
1B. For the rest of the day the breeze remained a shifty northerly between
4-14 kts. Strong outgoing current in the morning and incoming current in the
afternoon made for a few general recalls. All OCS boats were quick to clear
themselves thanks to megaphone skills of the race committee. One protest was
heard resulting in a DSQ. Many thanks to judges Emily Whipple, Erin Riley,
Kate Mitsch, and Lindsay Shanholt and to the camel undergrads for help on
shore. B div. will begin tomorrow morning.
Sunday:
The first B div. race was attempted in the dying northerly but had to be called
off. A 6-10 knot southerly came in around 11 am and 6 races were sailed in B
and 4 in A to complete 10 races in each division. Courses were windward
leeward twice around and two and a half times around. Judges heard three
protests with one resulting in a DSQ. Racing was very close up until the end
with only a few points separating 5th through eighth. Thanks to judges Clemmie
Everett, Erin Riley, and Niko Kotsatos for their diligence both on and off the
water. Thanks to all the Camel sailors for their help with RC and on shore.
Congratulations to Tufts, Harvard, BC, Dartmouth, and BU for qualifying for
ICSA Nationals. Best of luck!
