Hi Johnny, Did you read the upgrade instructuctions regarding /etc/sysconfig/icinga2? Among other things, it suggests removing all entries for environment variables and just adding those you need to adjust, and not to define environment variables based on other variables as that won't work with systemd.
<https://www.icinga.com/docs/icinga2/latest/doc/16-upgrading-icinga-2/> If that doesn't help (not sure if this is related): There was a major issue with Icinga 2 startup in version 2.9.0 on non-systemd machines (e.g. CentOS 6) that however did not manifest itself in systemd OSes like CentOS 7. You could try using the latest snapshot.
