Hi all, I am hopefully on the final stretch of an Icinga 1 to Icinga 2 conversion, and in trying to simplify our log checks I've run across a problem.
In short: Are there any plans to add vars.* settings to hostgroups? Our hostgroups have several check_logfiles log checks (around 6-8, depending on various things), each one with a timeperiod defined by the hostgroup they are assigned to (aka the group's start time). Assigning by host vars in this particular case seems to make various definitions very bloated, and switching to a 24x7 run has the same problem, just with repeatable downtimes instead. The only other alternative we have at this point is the same we did in Icinga 1 - each host group gets a rather longish config file, having assign statements for each check in that group, and those checks have the timeperiods and other group-custom settings defined. I am trying to avoid this, because we've found this step to be skipped WAY too often when provisioning a new hostgroup. Icinga 2 will already allow me to fix that for most of the other checks (including DB checks, and our internal process and file monitor apps), but doing that for check_logfiles is proving difficult.
