Does the CheckCommand exist under that global zone?

It needs to be defined on the client node, yes, however this should be 
accomplished by including it in the global zone.

Is the definition of your CheckCommand somewhere underneath 
/etc/icinga2/zones.d/global-templates (or whatever you called your global 
zone)?
