Compiled 2.4.8 from source (tar file) using the build instructions
several months ago (cmake, make, etc)

Here is how I upgraded:

1. compiled 2.5.4 from source, stopped icinga, and copied the
following into place:

lib/icinga2/*
lib64/icinga2/*
share/*

2. /usr/bin/mysql -u root icinga <
share/icinga2-ido-mysql/schema/upgrade/2.5.0.sql

3. restarted icinga
