Have you looked at http://docs.icinga.org/latest/en/dependencies.html if you are using Icinga1, or alternatively section 3.9 of http://docs.icinga.org/icinga2/latest/doc/module/icinga2/chapter/monitoring- basics if you are using Icinga2?
