I got no responses on my email from yesterday. So, I'm wondering if maybe I break the question down into smaller parts if that will help. What I believe I'll need are: 1.) instructions for installing Icinga over Nagios. Both the server and the monitored nodes, if anything, in fact needs to be done on the latter. 2.) relavant cookbooks, recipes, etc. for setting the Icinga install up to be managed from Chef server version 10. I suspect that this will about cover it, but since, again, I'm very new to both Icinga/Nagios and Chef, I can't be sure. Thanks, -Anthony
From: anthony.bernard2...@hotmail.com To: icinga-users@lists.icinga.org Subject: Migrating from Nagios to Icinga Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2014 11:32:31 -0700 Hi, I am very new to Nagios, Icinga, and Chef, but have a collection of Chef-managed hosts that I would like to migrate from Nagios to Icinga. I am somewhat lost as to where I should start. I have found these pages: https://www.icinga.org/nagios/upgrade-from-nagios/ https://wiki.icinga.org/display/howtos/Chef But, details that I can apply to the specific setup that I'm working with appear to be lacking. Here's a bit more info. on what I'm looking at 1.) The instance of Chef that we have is running on our own hardware/VM: it's version 10.18.2 of the server product and is running on an EC2, Ubuntu 12.04 VM. 2.) The version of Nagios that we're using is Nagios Core 3.2.3. The server instance is running on the same EC2 VM as our Chef server. 3.) With regard to the managed hosts, three are running Ubuntu 12.04 and two are running Amazon Linux AMI (these I've had trouble with, in terms of getting things like nrpe to run properly). I'm not sure what I'll need in order to get this done, but I would imagine it will include: 1.) links, other information... actual "apt-get install" steps for getting the required software in place. 2.) Appropriate Chef cookbooks for the new software, configuration files, etc. If there's anyone, out there, who has gone through this process and can lend me a hand, I would really appreciate it. I've been putting this work off for a while now, because I've felt so lost. Thanks, -Anthony
