Without disagreeing about the stupidity of making stuff just vanish (hint: if they wanted to move it, they didn't need to delete the old content, and anyone vaguely conscious would have provided links to the new locations,or AT LEAST a static page saying "Stuff moved, go here"), anything that gets content off the disaster that is the IBM web and onto something maintained by competent admins--scratch that, maintained AT ALL--is probably actually a good thing in the long run.
