Regarding the "how do the IBM hardware guys set the LIB ID" question - it is
set during the initial configuration of the machine. We were able to pick the
library ID for the composite library as well as the distributed library name
back when we put our first TS7720 on the floor. When we upgraded to a TS7760
clustered to a TS7760T at our DR location, we picked the IDs for the new nodes,
tying them together using the composite library number. The CE used the lib
IDs when he configured the machines.

Correct. I could have been clearer about that.

I have no idea. It may be settable in the firmware, or maybe it is "hard coded"
into the hardware. I am thinking that it is conceptually like the CPUID on the
z.

This is clearly another case of too many mad scientists, and not enough
hunchbacks.
