These are all good questions - in this instance I don't know the internals of the product that might be creating these long names. It's a 'developer studio' type of product which runs on Windows and communicates to a started task from the same vendor which can also run on other platforms such as a Windows service or a Unix process (I think it's a daemon but haven't researched this product running on *nix). So, predictably the developers are grousing about the 8-character limit.
