It doesn't matter, as long as you don't care whether all of your outbound e-mail is delivered. OTOH, if you want it delivered then it does matter. But it's not my dog.

I was thinking of email based on userid-which would naturally have been uppercase, but people would perennially have forgotten to uppercase it when sending (less of a problem today, with autocomplete) and so mainframe email would have gotten a reputation for being "flaky".
