There were three major "MQ 7" releases for z/OS that had different End of
Service dates: 7.0.0, 7.0.1, and 7.1.x. If you're running MQ 7.1 on z/OS
2.2, that was an IBM supported combination. So was MQ 7.1 on z/OS 2.3 for
that matter. IBM Extended Service for MQ 7.1 should still be available for
a few more months (as I write this) if you wish to pay for it. MQ 7.0.1 and
earlier was not IBM supported on z/OS 2.2 or above.

Moving up to the latest MQ release is generally rather simple and
straightforward, so yes, I would move up as quickly as practical. Please
remember there's no more Single Version Charge (SVC) countdown clock, so go
right ahead and order the current MQ even if you have some strange laggard
holding back one queue manager, for example.
