If you're running MQ 7.1 on z/OS 2.2, that was an IBM supported combination. So was MQ 7.1 on z/OS 2.3 for that matter. IBM Extended Service for MQ 7.1 should still be available for a few more months (as I write this) if you wish to pay for it. MQ 7.0.1 and earlier was not IBM supported on z/OS 2.2 or above.
Moving up to the latest MQ release is generally rather simple and straightforward, so yes, I would move up as quickly as practical.
