Of course it's not black magic, but if you mismatch the ID's you won't
be able to use it.
And there is not check in HCD or during activation.

I think it is documented in a Redbook, but the part you called easy can be
tricky.
For tape devices you should provide LIBPORT ID and LIBRARY ID.
LIBRARY ID is defined by CE, but it can be also "composite ID" for grid
configurations. LIBPORT ID is taken from the table.
Finally you add the devices to proper esoteric names and thats all of HCD.
Later you define libraries in the SMS.

current IODF.
