Got it, and that’s good. We have the same issue. We have one homegrown
online system using LOCAL time that surprisingly can replay the hour, but
cannot detect the change in time without recycling. So, operations shutdown
down the one lone app, does the set timezone, and then come right back up again.

Sorry yes, we are using a GMT offset, the real issue and I misspoke, its the
application that have problems, they use a local timestamp, not an offset, so
time calculations are off, if they'd just hold the schedules and hour I'd be
fine.
thanks David !

Carmen, you don’t mention it, but are you running with your system clocks at
LOCAL time or GMT with the offset? Nothing IBM provided at relatively current
levels does anything with LOCAL time anymore, its all based off GMT. Including
DB2 and SMF. CICS now even detects time change automatically, and does his own
reset.

Unless you are doing system maintenance along with the IPLs, you could be just
doing the SET TIMEZONE=xx.xx command and saving yourself the IPL. Even if you
do continue to hold application processing down for the hour.

Thanks Mike and thanks to Allan Staller, I didn't see his response in my email
but I wanted to thank him also - on fall back we do shut the systems down, wait
an hour, mostly due to DB2, and some home grown applications that read SMF and
cannot handle the overlap. I have no issues setting the STP on a Friday before
a time change, this thing that has changed to much is the inability for
'operators' and I use the term loosely to read some procedures and issue 2
commands to shut the system down and bring it backup, but that seems to be the
wave of the future, I know its not Friday yet but I had to vent... thanks again
all

Whatever abbreviations you put in will be displayed. And it does work for
Australia and other Down Under locations.
