I feel compelled to use Perl because of its expressive power and the massive library available at CPAN, but I consider it ugly. I'd really prefer a language with regex syntax for people who aren't limited to slow teletypes, more in the style of ICON, SNOBOL or Wylbur.
As for REXX, it is a very clean language for scripting OS commands, and acceptable for more complicated tasks. I just wish that IBM, having invented OREXX, would bring OOREXX into the z fold. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) And I'm sure that PHP and even that snake language have their fans. Maybe IBM should leave script language design to the wider world. REXX is adequate for a lot of things, but the // and % operators just make me mad. sas ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
