However, as I recall (no reference), IBM decided that their filesystems were so perfect that such was an unneeded luxury. Again, as I remember, when an HFS or zFS filesystem is mounted, a flag is set which marks it as "dirty" (so to speak). When the filesystem is unmounted, the flag is set as "clean". When a filesystem is mounted, this flag is tested. If it is "dirty", then the mount process does the equivalent of a filesystem integrity check. If you want to see what it does, just crash your sandbox with UNIX active (a simple IPL will do it).
