As Jack said, you need lots of memory. How big is your 'huge' TSO region?
Yes, that's why I used 200 000 kB (close to ~2GB limit)

Do you have any other process(es) in your TSO session eating up your memory?
Nothing!
Can you try that Java out in Batch? I have once a hungry Java job from a
clueless user with the same error message and memory requirements. I could get
it running with REGION=512M (in batch).
Unfortunately, no. My goal is to run Compuware installation process
which is interactive.
However the start of the installation is "java some-file.jar" and the
java has to be 64-bit.
