Good question. My experience using these devices coupled with a short wave radio gave us a rate of about 150-300 baud. If you figure 8 bits per baud, you get 2400 bps. However, you asked about bytes so I'm thinking we can simply go back to the original number and say 300 BPS. Other hardware configurations would probably give much different results.
