SSH SFTP and FTP/S are both valid standards. SSH SFTP is more popular because it already included and configured on all Unix/Linux distributions. Both protocols are included in z/OS.
Co:Z SFTP works with IBM z/OS OpenSSH to add support for data sets, codepage and format conversions, spool files, etc. https://dovetail.com/products/sftp.html It is available free to use under our Community License.
