No… but I have “inherited” other peoples COBOL programs that did use ALTER 
extensively (How many in the order of 200 of say 8,000 cobol source).
Granted this was 30+ years ago.
I dreaded the call the one of these monsters blew up as I knew I was in for a 
long night of debugging.
Not one of the programs used your constructs *AND* I was not a COBOL programmer.
These programs were extremely complicated *AND* were not well documented.

What should have been a half hour of debugging turned into several hours.
I can’t remember specifics as it was 35 years ago but trying to match up source 
to memory was hair raising (this caused a premature gray hair add to that 20++ 
years in sysproging I should have been bald. Oh yes and the alcohol.
