It may not be IBM but the local DBA or another technical user making that 
request.  My local sysplex has no directory named /products/DB2 but does have a 
/usr/lpp/db2 directory.

There are many places in any organization where understanding and knowledge can 
be improved.

Must it be on root?  Perhaps "DB2 for Dummies" oversimplifies, meaning
to help you.

If DB2 allows any flexibility, first try putting it elsewhere such as
/usr or /var/.

Really, IBM should follow its own convention and make it /usr/lpp/DB2.
