There is a compiler for Rexx but its performance improvement is moderate. TMON Tone? The TMON family of performance monitors was Landmark and is now ASG.
Tone used to have that lower-overhead TSO replacement. They now have a mix of mainframe products including a dynamic STEPLIB product. XLR8(Fischer), TMON(Tone), and CLICK(IBM Internal). In mid eighties we had good results with XLR8 and ADF II.
