My understanding is no, though the DS8870 and its orderable features will continue to be available at least for several more quarters according to IBM's announcement. "Ask your IBM enterprise storage specialist," though. >Will the 8880 function seamlessly in a remote mirror configuration >from the 8870? Yes (with the same advice), and furthermore yes with storage system models prior to the DS8870. That'll be in "lowest common denominator" form, meaning that certain functional enhancements to particular mirroring technologies (and newer mirroring technologies) might require a newer technology base, but that caveat shouldn't be too surprising. Also, as always you'll want to do some basic performance planning. But yes, this is a very important set of compatibilities especially for stepwise upgrade scenarios. Most customers want to "keep the lights on" as they roll in upgrades, understandably. IBM and Hitachi collaborate in this particular area (and in others), so that's good, too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy Sipples IT Architect Executive, Industry Solutions, IBM z Systems, AP/GCG/MEA E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
