z/OS statement of direction August 8, 2006 IBM plans to take the following actions effective with the general availability of z/OS V1.8: The APPC Application Suite is a set of common applications originally designed to enhance the value of SNA networks for end users. Since more full-featured alternative applications exist in modern integrated SNA/IP networks, z/OS V1.8 is planned to be the last release of z/OS Communications Server which will include the APPC Application Suite. After z/OS V1.8 the APPC Application Suite will no longer be shipped with the product, and will not be supported. However, note that APPC itself remains an integral part of z/OS Communications Server's SNA functions, and there are no plans to remove APPC from z/OS. For more information, refer to z/OS Communications Server Web site.
