When I first joined IBM back in 1998 I hated IPCS and its magic
incantations so much that I wrote my own system dump analyzer in Java
(svcdump.jar and later zebedee). That was mainly aimed at extracting Java
heap dumps and stack traces but it also did native LE stack traces and
there was also an option to format the systrace which attempted to
translate PSWs into the closest function name - quite handy for analyzing
loops and things. I also started on a web GUI which was good for
displaying memory (along with ascii/ebcdic representation) where you could
just click on an address and it would take you there.

There's loads of potential for modern IPCS alternatives, just needs time
and access to all that secret knowledge :)

Cheers,

>I believe using IPCS and reading dumps is a dying art practised only by a
few magicians these days. A shame, really.

If someone showed interest in becoming such a fabled magician, what
direction would you point said someone to?
