In one case of which I know, a whale with an onerous government charter arranged to be swallowed by a minnow with a much more favorable charter. Of course the acquiring company got the rights to the whale's trademarks and used them. By arrangement, the officers of the vanishing company became officers of the merged company. Etc. And the general public hardly knew.
