It depends on what the real problem with the tape is.

Is it a physical tape or a virtual one?

Has it been overwritten? The ARC309I message you previously reported does
not answer that question. It only tells you that HSM thinks it still owns
the tape. But the AUDIT command already told you that.

What does the LIST TTOC command tell you? If there is only one file on the
tape, then all is probably lost. If more than one, can you restore any of
the ones that are not damaged?

Does the AUDIT VOLUMES(V05537) command provide any useful information?

Do you have any tool (we called ours TAPESNIF) that will print the HDR1
records from the tape? If not, can you mount the tape as BLP and have
IDCAMS print files 1, 4, 7, etc?

Can you determine the intent of the FIXCDS commands AUDIT is recommending?
HSM has a Diagnosis manual and a Data Areas manual that should help.

Does this provide sufficient incentive to start duplexing to provide a
recovery path when, not if, this happens again?
