I have dropped some of my production COBOL/Assembler/REXX programs to use ICETOOL / DFSORT for speed of handling large data after reading those books (Prof Sort, Beyond Sort and SORT Tricks, etc) many years ago. Whats more, DFSORT/ICETOOL can handle large volume of data via DD SORTWKnn or with SORT paramaters while automagically clean up after space abends without affecting the data during sort.
