That's true. I'm in the software business, and for me such software is best
that makes absolutely no assumptions about the underlying hardware and
runs on all platforms. This is not always possible, of course, but I
normally
don't need to know which aspect of the architecture is implemented
at which layer of the machine (although I find such discussions
interesting, too).
