I don't mean to complain, well, in this case I do, but I really have to wonder
about some of the people on this list. I have been a systems programmer and a
developer for over 25 years and have written hundreds of thousands of lines of
code and provided help to literally thousands of people both on and off these
lists, but I have never received an offlist comment like the one I received
from Elardus Engelbrecht today. To say that I am offended is a bit much, but I
am definitely disappointed.

Why would someone say one thing on the list and then that exact same person
send two emails offlist acting as if I killed their puppy?

Just because I have never written a UJI or UJV exit that required me to process
the actual account number text string and asked if someone else had that could
provide me with an example doesn't mean that I don't know anything about exits
or coding. At least I didn't think so, but maybe I'm all wrong.

I had thought that it was attrition which was reducing the content of the
lists, but possibly it's just that when people ask if someone has already
written something to save some time or effort, only to be accused of not
knowing anything about being a "real" systems programmer, can be a bit jarring.

I have no problem with people calling me Brain instead of Brian, but I don't
understand why anyone would rant at someone they don't even know and denigrate
their expertise (which is not only incorrect and improper, but rude).

His final comment on the email was way out of line, just like the rest of the
email (s) (there were two because I guess you just can't insult someone once
without going back for more) and I will paste it exactly as he wrote it:

"Brain : Are you in INDIA because anybody in the USA, knows about these basics
?"

Now, I don't know what about my question yesterday set him off, but with these
types of people on the list I can understand why less people are participating
now.

I'm sorry to have bothered the busy people on the list and I will write the
exit without any input.

Brian Westerman
