Now that this has finally been put to bed, the length of the thread
illustrates vividly the issue I have with using DF/SORT.
It has grown (and changed) over the years in an apparent attempt to
be "all things to all men" - and is damn near unusable as a quick
solution. Unless you already have a job set up somewhere that is
"close enough" and can be quickly modified, or can find something
in the smart tricks papers.
Works a treat when it works though ...

To be fair its both SYNCSORT and DFSORT.
At one installation we had production problem issue because we
changed sorts and one sort could not handle the "fancy" option that
the other didn't like the control cards. It turned out to be a fairly
easy fix.
Myself I am really mixed on the use and would only allow the IF and
other controls in production, but thats me, I don't like surprises
like that.
