It has been around long before SYSPLEX of any sort. We called it 'Shared SPOOL'. Now it's Multi-Access SPOOL (MAS).

It seems to be a candidate for sysplex communication. You have sysplex, because it's prerequisite fo MAS(*). AFAIK that require APF. BTW: what's wrong with TCP/IP? (*)Fine print: many moons ago it would be possible to have MAS without sysplex.
