I find it useful to be able to write <whatever>: do . . . ; . . . end <whatever> ;
in PL/I in some circumstances and to be able to write just do ; . . . end ; in others, particularly but not always for trivial, non-iterative DO groups. My point is of course that most people most of the time go to far in their efforts to standardize these things; and their efforts do not age well; they look ridiculous and smell worse after just a few years.
