One unusual characteristic: a high-speed rewind was really "high speed" and ran off the end (actually the beginning) of the tape and sometimes "lost" a few inches of tape! They "looked" to be less expensive, but they worked well with 1410, 1401, and 7040 systems (where I used them). They might have been used with other base systems as well.
