If it's still giving trouble, have you checked your Rexx for odd control characters using HEX ON? You can also find them using F P'.' (where p'.' is anything not printable). Also note you can use pictorial arguments for CHANGE, such as "C ALL C'AAA' P'=<<' " which should do the same as yours, but may be useful in future.
