We have an IBM TS7770 and we use BMC's Control-T for our tape management. We are running z/OS 2.4 on an IBM z15. Today, I encountered two volumes that had cataloged datasets and were properly retained by CTT, that got the IEC149I 813-04 ABEND. As part of that message, the contents of the dataset header record is displayed and it was zeroes. Normally, when CTT scratches a tape, it requests the VTS to zero the dataset header record. I looked through the various CTT batch jobs for that LPAR, and everything said the tapes were cataloged and being retained by CTT. In addition, I used ISMF to display the two tapes, and the volumes were marked as private.
Lastly, I logged onto the TS7770 UI and displayed the virtual volumes and the used MBs indicated the tape was in scratch status. I checked the TS7770 for error messages, but I did not find any. Does anybody have an idea as to how this can happen? Thanks in advance. "Confidentially doc, I am the wabbit."
