4341 definitely laid on its side.  Worked at a site in 1983 that had two 4341s, 
shared SPOOL and
MVS SP 1.x (again).  If I remember correctly, there was a direct connection for 
the console.  I 
was told that the 3090s used 43xx for the processor controller.  The same 
person told me that
the 308x used 8100s for the processor controller.
