DB2 V1 R1 was released on April 2, 1985, after being announced in 1983. My first introduction to DB2 was in 1990, with V2.2, so I'm guessing, but seeing that MVS/XA was released in 1983, I would assume that DB2 required MVS/XA and would not run in a 24 bit address space.
