No, it is not discussion about MIM vs GRS.
It is about tape autoswitching, which is "built-in" in sysplex features, but require add-on software for cross-sysplex configurations. I can't remember exact names of the products, however CA (now Broadcom) had one, belonging to MIM family. IBM has such product as well. I cannot tell which one is cheaper or what features are different, however both are *not free*. The rest is matter of negotiations, evaluations, etc. However in many cases the number of virtual drives in VTS-like solution is big enough to statically assign the to the systems. And this is (almost) free. Almost, because for IBM VTS anything above 256 is paid feature. IMHO it is not expensive when you negotiate new box, upgrades are different animals.
